Workwear Chic: Styling Chore Jackets this Fall

This fall, workwear chic is all about combining durable practicality with effortless style. Chore Jackets are key to achieving the workwear vibe, and happen to be timeless staple you can keep in your closet for years to come. You might even already own one!

Chore Jackets (also known as: Barn Coats) began to make a comeback last fall, thanks to the surge of carhartt jackets hitting vintage markets and resell websites everywhere. As someone who is almost always cold, I am all for a "the jacket is the outfit" type vibe and while I love a good vintage find, unless you have the right connections, a good vintage chore jacket can be hard. With summer coming to a close and fall fashion on the horizon, I've been excited to see more options popping up, let's dive into a few that have caught my eye!

Staying close to the classic chore jacket design, this Canvas Barn Jacket from Old Navy has the cutest corduroy collar and is priced just under $70!

If you're looking for something a little more on the statement side, this Check Parka with Contrasting Collar from Mango may be for you. It's my personal favorite and is screaming "book a trip to london & take me with you" (but that's just my opinion).

Last but not least, and possibly the perfect mix of staple & statement is the We The Free Denim Barn Coat from Free People. Featuring a medium wash denim & corduroy collar!

If vintage or secondhand is the direction you'd like to go, check out this one & this one on eBay. They don't typically last long so work quick!

Now let's talk styling!

The right "wrong" Jacket

If you know me, then you know I love the art of juxtaposition in outfit styling. The "wrong shoe theory" is the perfect example of this! Let's take what we know and love from the "wrong shoe theory" and apply it to jackets. What feels "wrong" can look just right. For instance, pairing a traditionally "masculine" chore jacket with a dainty midi skirt or lace maxi creates a gorgeous, effortlessly chic contrast!

West is best

In my opinion, adding a western touch to your look is easy! Pair your barn coat with a denim maxi or your favorite pair of jeans, and finish off the look with a pair of riding or cowboy boots. If a leather bag with fringe detailing so happens to be stashed away in your closet, now would be the perfect time to pull her out.

Very Casual Friday

WFH then off to run weekend errands? This one's for you! Boxer shorts & a basic white tee are you and your barn coat's best friend! Keep it simple with a crew socks and birkenstocks, or switch it up with your favorite knee-high boots.
